Utah Food Bank Breaks Ground on New Facility to Address Rapid Growth
Amidst Utah County’s population boom, the Utah Food Bank is expanding its reach with a new 77,000 square-foot distribution center in Springville. The groundbreaking ceremony, attended by Governor Spencer Cox and other officials, marked a significant step in addressing the growing need for food assistance in the region.
Utah County has experienced substantial growth, ranking 10th in the nation for population increase in 2021. Cities like Vineyard have seen a staggering 9,000% population surge, while others like Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain have doubled in size.
The new facility, expected to be operational in 2024, will be crucial in meeting the rising demand, enabling the Utah Food Bank to efficiently distribute food throughout the county. Ginette Bott, the food bank’s president and CEO, emphasized the necessity of expanding their capacity to keep pace with the rapid growth.
With the Utah Food Bank distributing millions of pounds of food annually, this new distribution center will be a critical asset in ensuring no one in Utah County goes hungry.
